WE BUY AND SELL SECOND HAND BOOKS

Moss Books began its journey in 1992 at 13 Henrietta Street, Cheltenham. Thanks to the overwhelming support of our community, we quickly outgrew that space and relocated to 8-9 Henrietta Street in 1997. In 2000, we expanded further, introducing the Loft Cyber Café above the bookshop—a popular spot for readers and coffee enthusiasts alike. Recently, the café space was transformed into an additional area for books, creating a more spacious browsing experience and allowing us to offer an even wider selection of titles.
After over 30 wonderful years in our beloved location, we faced a bittersweet change when the property was reclaimed by the landlord for sale at the end of 2023. Fortunately, we found a new home just a minute’s walk away. While the new space is cozier, it’s more modern and has allowed us to thoughtfully reorganize. We’ve ensured all the sections our readers love remain intact, so you can continue to enjoy the Moss Books experience.
We’re excited to start this new chapter and remain committed to providing a welcoming space for book lovers, just as we always have.

At Moss Books, we take pride in offering a diverse range of specialist sections to cater to every reader's interests. Our Transport collection includes extensive selections on Railways and Motoring, while our History section spans Russian, German, and British History, along with Archaeology and the Ancient World. You'll also find dedicated shelves for countries like China, Japan, Italy, Spain, and France, complemented by unique titles on other regions.
For literature enthusiasts, we feature an A-Z Fiction section encompassing both Classic and Modern Literature, as well as a dedicated space for Poetry and Plays. Crime aficionados will appreciate our A-Z Crime section, offering a mix of vintage and contemporary works.
Our collection doesn't stop there. We boast extensive sections on Art, Music, Military, Natural History, Politics, Economics, Science Fiction/Fantasy, Psychology, Philosophy, Religion, Cookery, Craft, and Topography, alongside a wide selection of modern paperbacks. Additionally, we have dedicated spaces for Sport, Architecture, Foreign Languages, Exploration/Adventure, Wildlife, and Hardback Fiction.
With such a vast and carefully curated selection, every visit to Moss Books brings the chance to discover something new—whether a timeless classic, a hidden gem, or an unexpected find.
